Miriam Danielsen Joins NextGen Neighbor Network as Project Coordinator
NextGen Neighbor Network is proud to welcome Miriam Danielsen as our new Project Coordinator and NextGen Neighbor Network Ambassador after two years of significant involvement with the initiative and its Founder, Louise Mohn. This includes active participation and leadership in Miljøplakaten Gneist Arena, Miljøplakaten Sandslihallen, and her recent community leadership fundraising for the fire victims of Drammen at Gneist Arena.

For Miriam, community leadership has been a natural lifetime path and commitment from an early age. Raised in a family where volunteering and caring for others were simply part of everyday life, Miriam learned early that community is something we all have a responsibility to help create. Her mother devoted much of her life to Idrettslaget Gneist, while her grandmother reflected what Miriam describes as a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and valued.
Those early examples left a lasting impression.
“My family as a whole gave me a strong foundation,” Miriam says. “I learned the importance of showing up, including others, and the joy of contributing where you can.”
That foundation would go on to influence both her professional career and her leadership within the community.
A Career Built Around Care
Miriam is a registered clinical nurse, educated at Oslo University College, and has worked at Ullevål University Hospital, Rikshospitalet, and Haukeland Univerity hospital, as well as in elderly care. Her years in nursing taught her lessons that extend far beyond healthcare. They taught her the importance of dignity and integrity, particularly during moments of vulnerability. They reinforced the value of listening and deepened her belief that compassion is often expressed through simple yet powerful acts: being present, remaining calm, treating people with respect, and making sure no one feels invisible.
That understanding has also shaped Miriam’s view of public health. For her, public health is not only about preventing illness and encouraging physical activity. It is also about confidence, belonging, positive relationships, supportive adults, and creating environments especially through sport where young people feel they have a meaningful place. It is a perspective that aligns naturally with the mission of NextGen Neighbor Network.
Creating Places Where Young People Belong
For the past 17 years, Miriam has been deeply involved with Gneist, following several years living in Oslo. For approximately eight and a half years, she worked as a coordinator for Gneist Gymnastics, where her focus extended well beyond athletic achievement.
Her goal was to help create an environment where children and young people could develop as athletes and well rounded individuals.
Miriam has worked to foster a team sports culture centered on safety, inclusion, respect, responsibility, and good values—one where success is measured on social responsibility, and how young people develop vs sporting results and medals. Among the experiences Miriam values most is watching young gymnasts grow into confident coaches, leaders, and role models themselves.
“As a mother and through my work in Gneist, I have seen how much young people can grow when they are trusted, given responsibility, and supported by adults,” she says.
Leading The Way
For Miriam, leadership is about meeting young people where they are, and helping them recognize what they are capable of contributing. That same mindset has guided her involvement in community boards, parent groups, PTOs, schools, activities, and Gneist Gymnastics over the years.
Yet Miriam is a woman who is humble and is quick to note that building trusted relationships with adults is key. She speaks warmly with gratitude when it comes to her colleagues, fellow community leaders, coaches, parents, and volunteers she has worked alongside—people who, over time, have become an extended family. Together, they have built programs, supported athletes and coaches, organized activities, strengthened community culture, and created opportunities for young people to grow. For Miriam, that collective effort is the whole point and why strong communities require togetherness by children and young people, parents, coaches, volunteers, colleagues, partners, and neighbors who consistently choose to contribute.
A New Chapter With NextGen Neighbor Network
Miriam has already begun moving full steam ahead in her new role as Project Coordinator. She is currently in ongoing meetings and planning preparation for Miljøplakaten Sletten, Miljøplakaten NTG Bergen, and onboarding new I care. Ambassadors.
Her experience in sport, healthcare, volunteerism, and community development brings added value to NextGen Neighbor Network’s ongoing work across Norway. We are deeply grateful to have her onboard and further help us promote social responsibility and community service, raise awareness for the importance of public health, and encourage young people to stay physically active, say no to drugs, reduce their risks for addiction , spend less time on their smartphones, help prevent crime, and reflect the values of what it means to be a good neighbor.
